Last Will and Testament

of  John Hanscombe - 1731

In the name of God Amen I John Hanscombe of Husborne Crawley in the County of Bedford Sawyer being infirm in body but of perfect and sound mind and memory Praised be God for it make this my Last Will and Testament as followeth

Imprimis I commit my soul into the hands of Almighty God my creator assuredly believing that I shall receive full pardon and free remission of all my sins and be saved by the precious? death and merits of my blessed Saviour and Redeemer Jesus Christ And my body to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my executors hereafter named

Imprimis I give unto my loving wife Sarah all that messuage and tenement in Shidlinton (Shillington) in the County of Bedford in the occupation of John Field given to me by my Uncle Thomas Hanscombe after the decease of my father for the term of her natural life paying the sum of thirty five shillings yearly interest money for thirty five pounds upon a mortgage that now is upon that estate keeping the premises in tenantable repair but if my wife Sarah should marry after my decease to pay my three children John Sarah and Ann Hanscombe the sum of one pound apiece yearly out of the said estate to become due the next half year as shall happen that is Lady Day or Michaelmas by equal portion during the term of her natural life

And after her decease I give the same premises to my son John Hanscombe his heirs and assigns forever he or they paying my two daughters Sarah and Ann Hanscombe his two sisters the sum of twenty pounds each to be paid within six months after the decease of my said wife and if either of my two daughters shall happen to die without heirs before this money be come due then for her part to be equally divided between the two survivors

Item I give all the rest of my goods and chattels and personal estate whatsoever unto my wife and make her sole executrix of this my Last Will and Testament paying my debts and funeral charges

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the fifteenth day of November one thousand seven hundred and thirty

Signed sealed published and declared by the testator in the presence of us whose names are hereto subscribed and our names are hereto subscribed in his presence and at his request

Probate granted May 1731 to Sarah relict of the deceased.
