Horndon House
Horndon-on-the-Hill
, Essex

In Ambrose Spitty's will of 1771 :-
"unto my sons John Spitty and William Spitty the lease of the farm wherein I now dwell commonly called Horndon House".

Horndon House farm has many connections in the history of the village, as it was one of the former Manor Houses. More notable however, is its connection with the martyr Thomas Higbed, a yeoman who lived there. Higbed had a very puritanical outlook and was burned at the stake for refusing to renounce his religious beliefs under the reign of Queen Mary "Bloody Mary".

Horndon House is still lived in today however it is in a poor condition.
