Commonwealth Probate of Will (7 February 1656/7) of
Richard Spittie of South Fambridge, yeoman.
Bequeaths to son Jeremiah £80, two heifers which his brother
Richard gave him on his death bed, and his second best bed with
bolster, two pillows, a covering, a blanket and two pairs of
sheets; bequeaths annuity of £13 6s. 8d. to wife Elizabeth for as
long as she should remain a widow, to be reduced to £10 if she
should re-marry; bequeaths £10 each to all his grandchildren,
40s. to daughter Susan Reade and 20s. to daughter Tomesen.
Devises parcel of land, formerly belonging to Edward Pullynes,
land bought of one Strangrum, three pieces of land (11a.),
formerly part of Kingell Wood, and messuage formerly belonging to
Mary Weells, all lying against a lane called Green Street [in
Hockley], to son Henry for life, then to Henry's son Richard and
his heirs for ever; devises rest of freehold and copyhold lands
[not specified] to son Ambrose for life, then to Ambrose's son
Richard and his heirs in tail male, remainder to testator's sons
Jeremiah and Henry, to be divided equally between them, and their
heirs in tail male.
