218. Amasa KENT was baptised in 1738 in Much Hadham, Herts. He was buried on 25 Jan 1804 in Albury, Herts.

Amasa is a biblical name. It occurs in :-
- 2 Samuel 17:25 "Absalom made Amasa Captain of the host";
- 2 Chronicles 28:12 "Amasa son of Hadlai";
- Other refs. in 2 Sam. 20:9 & 20:12; Kings 2:5; 1 Chron. 2:17.

Being an unusual name it is often mis-spelt or mis-transcribed, Also it appears he was nick-named "Massey" which also come variously spelt. Spelling variations :-

14 Feb 1795 - Mace Kent - Lame - 5 shillings.
26 Mar 1796 - Massy Kent - 3s6d.
22 Apr 1797 - gave Masey Kent for going to Hadham - 1s4d.
" - Masey Kent for his son Ben - 3s.
" - Orders & Examination of Ben Kent - 5s.
22 Jan 1804 - To horse & boy (to) Hertford for the Coronor in Kent - 5s.
28 Jan 1804 - Paid woman for laying out Amasa Kent - 2s.

Amasa's burial is recorded in the Albury Parish Register as follows :-
25 Jan 1804 - Amasa Kent - by Coronor's Warrant.
Unfortunately the Coronor's records have not survived so the circumstances of his death have not been discovered.

He was married to Elizabeth CLARKE on 14 Oct 1762 in Albury, Herts.

219. Elizabeth CLARKE was born on 11 Apr 1742 in Albury, Herts. She was buried on 24 Dec 1826 in Albury, Herts.
