EIGHTH GENERATION

Ambrose SPITTY was christened on 2 February 1716 in Rettendon, Essex¹. He was buried on 3 Oct 1770 in Horndon-on-the-Hill, Essex².

Ambrose was a Yeoman and leased several properties, named in his Will were Horndon House, Wyfields and Great Ilford Marshes (see following).

The Last Will & Testament of Ambrose was proven in 1771.

Ambrose Spitty of Horndon-on-the-Hill was also an executor of his 1/2 brother Samuel JAMES will, and half sister Mary BLACK's will (formerly Rutter, nee James). Ambrose's brother Thomas of South Benfleet was also an executor of Samuel's will. It is this link as Samuel & Mary James executors, together with Ambrose's age on his marriage licence that tends to definitely link this Ambrose to be the son of Thomas Spitty and Mary (formerly James nee Skilder) of Rettendon/Bowers Gifford.

He was married to Elizabeth WALKER widow on 1 January 1743 by Licence in Pitsea (Pitsey), Essex³ :-

Horndon-on-the-Hill, widow"

Elizabeth's first marriage was to John WALKER on the 21 January 1741 in Horndon-on-the-Hill² :-

"John Walker of Horndon aged 35 years, singleman, and Elizabeth Baker of the same Parish aged 25 years and a singlewoman."
John Walker was buried in the neighbouring Parish of Orsett on the 7 May 1742⁴. He died intestate and Elizabeth was granted Administration of his estate on nineteenth of May 1742⁵.

Elizabeth's age as above of 25 yrs in Jan 1741 (ie. born circa 1715) upon her marriage to John Walker matches the age of Elizabeth Spitty at burial in 1811 of 97 years (ie. circa 1714).

Elizabeth was born abt. 1714. She was buried on 7 Dec 1811 in Horndon-on-the-Hill.

Children were:

i. Thomas SPITTY was christened on 7 Nov 1743 in Horndon-on-the-Hill². He was buried on 15 Nov 1746 in Horndon-on-the-Hill.²
ii. Elizabeth SPITTY was christened on 21 Jan 1745 in Horndon-on-the-Hill². She was buried on 6 May 1757 in Horndon-on-the-Hill.²
iii. Sarah SPITTY was christened on 20 Feb 1747 in Horndon-on-the-Hil²l. She was buried on 7 Mar 1747 in Horndon on the Hill, Essex.
iv. Susanna SPITTY was christened on 10 May 1748 in Horndon-on-the-Hill. She was buried on 15 Mar 1819 in Horndon-on-the-Hill².
v. Ambrose SPITTY was christened on 16 Jan 1750 in Horndon-on-the-Hill². He was buried on 25 Oct 1808 in Horndon-on-the-Hill².
vi. Mary SPITTY was christened on 3 Dec 1751 in Horndon-on-the-Hill².
vii. John SPITTY was christened on 13 Dec 1754 in Horndon-on-the-Hill². He was buried on 17 Mar 1803 in Horndon-on-the-Hill².
viii. William SPITTY was christened on 13 Jun 1756 in Horndon-on-the-Hill². He was buried on 17 Mar 1827 in Horndon-on-the-Hill².
ix. Thomas SPITTY was christened on 7 Dec 1759 Horndon-on-the-Hill². He was buried on 13 Dec 1759 in Horndon-on-the-Hill².
