Simon's Family History

SIXTH GENERATION

36. Randall TURNEY was christened on 29 Jun 1800 in Husborne Crawley, Beds1. He died on 19 Sep 1869 in the Westminster Workhouse2.

Randall appears to have gone into a decline sometime between the 1841 & 1851 censuses. In the 1841 census he appears as a Linen Draper and he was also recorded in the Westminster Poll Book of the same year. He was no longer a Draper by 1851 and by the time of his death he was in the Workhouse, the cause of death on his Death Certificate was :-
"Habitual drunkeness Prostration after drinking chloric ether".
However being in the workhouse at death does not necessarily mean that he was destitute, as they also served as hospitals/infirmarys.

His occupations have been variously recorded as :-
Linen Draper (1828 & 31 Sun Insurance Policies, 1841 Census)
Collector of Debts (1851 Census)
Messenger (1861 Census & wife's Death Certificate 1862)
